1989 Austin Mini 30th Birthday Celebratory Edition

Restored and re-designed throughout six years, this Mini has beautiful bodywork, combining craftsmanship with power and performance, possibly one of the best examples available. At her heart she is a very special birthday edition (one of 359 only) with a full history and provenance, very low mileage, upgraded with a custom built 1275cc performance specification engine (92bhp, 235% more power than standard), recently rebuilt gearbox, recently new high specification suspension, subframe and braking system. Supplied comprehensively serviced, with 12 months MOT and no advisories, professionally tuned by a well known engine tune, she is ready to enjoy, offering the iconic classic rally-driver experience. I have expanded with more details below.

(a) Power

Upgraded with a recently custom built 1275cc engine she produces terrific power, driven through a newly rebuilt gearbox, combining raw power with 600kg of weight and that legendary Monto Carlo winning classic Mini handling she is terrific and/or terrifying behind the wheel.

For reference, the reported 92bhp power output of this engine provides over  50% more power than the highest factory performance Cooper,  over 80% more power than your standard 1275cc and a whopping 235% more power than the standard 1000cc.

Fuelled by the classical carburettor, you have those sounds, those smells, the seventies nostalgia, her upgraded LCB, RC40 exhaust system soulfully roars, excellent gas flow.

(b) Performance

Driving through the power effortlessly, handling remains precise, tort, benefitting from  upgraded GAZ adjustable shock absorbers, a rear spring conversion and adjustable ride height, her handling is dynamic and adjustable, allowing you to find your perfect stiffness and on the road handling.

Furthermore, you have a new alternator, new cutch master cylinder, K&N for airflow, cooling is upgraded with the Fletcher performance alloy radiator, plus the very expensive silicone heater hoses.

(c) Restored & Redesigned

Beautiful bodywork, surely one of the best examples, as good underneath as on top, benefiting from a new rear subframes and the correct vented sills.

Car people will appreciate the pre-paint preparation, specifically the fact that after four years her bodily condition and paint finish remains perfect, she’s not your average Mini, she isn’t rusting away because she has been prepared a high and correct standard. The restoration was also photographed and preserved on CD Rom.

Stanced beautifully, combining dynamic ride height with the recently new Supalite 6x12 wider alloy wheels, those wheels trodden in brand new premium Yokohama tyres providing excellent upgraded grip.

The boot board kit cost £300 alone, inside she is very original, bar new original specification carpets and sound proofing, under carpet felt and headlining, new window seals etc. Under her carpets the metal looks almost new (see pictures).

(d) Very Special Edition, Excellent Provenance

Super rare, super special, she is one of just 359 special 30th Birthday editions remaining, these birthday editions were highly specified and finished in the iconic pearlescent burgundy, they had more leather, more lacquer, the lightening strike patterned interior embellished with the birthday logo, very collectible and investible, much sought after for the edition and colour scheme, being a rarer, more subtle period colour, plus pearlescent.

This example has low genuine miles at 47,000, not that they matter considering that her engine gearbox, suspension and brakes are recently rebuilt, she has a beautiful history folder from new which includes the original Rover purchase receipts from when Mrs Godfrey purchased her and a full MOT history, plus two folders of invoices. This is a genuine car, without accidents, without finance. Her current owner has owned her for six years.

(e) Ready to Get Behind the Wheel

Many mechanical parts are brand new, she’s comprehensively serviced, engine, cooling and brakes, her electronics have been reviewed, she’s supplied with 12 months MOT and no advisories, HPI clear, you can have peace of mind. She’s also recently been professionally tuned, her performance optimised by a well known classic car engine tuner.

Accordingly, this is your opportunity to purchase super special example with excellent provenance, an example that is restored and redesigned, combining a beautiful finish of craftsmanship with a raw power to weight ratio.

Things to Note

She’s been upgraded to a 1275cc engine and this needs updating on her logbook, which is easy. The golden colour scheme is unique, some decals one of a kind, but being stickers it’s easy to put her back to standard if you wished. The golden grill has a small ping on one side, which again can be easily replaced with a new one in either chrome or gold. She comes with two sets of number plates, the standard plates and black, aluminium stamped plates.

Mileage History (MOT)

This is one of those very rare examples that has a full history from new. The history includes all of her MOT slips. These demonstrate a genuine mileage of circa 47,000 miles. There is a discrepancy in 2023 when her speedometer was changed (these sometimes fail) which will have caused an inaccuracy of 400-500 miles.
